It works by how much force (load) you apply to it rather than how far you push it, as in a potentiometer.

i had an M$ wheel about a year into forza 2 but couldnt use it for toffee as my brain was pad hardwired so shelved it until Race Pro came out. Only used the wheel on that. The experience was spot on, cockpit view in the Mini around Brands Hatch is still probably the most fun ive had in a game. My wheel broke though so i went onto the pad but it felt aweful.
So dont even consider using a pad in forza 4

if theres 1 gripe though its the pedals. You get so much feedback from the wheel but absolutly nothing from the pedals. Do any Fanatec pedals have any feedback/rumble?

The clubsport pedals have a little vibration motor on the brake pedal that you can set to activate at a certain braking force (I use 85% mostly). The idea is to set the vibration motor to activate at a point just before the wheels would normally lock. So whilst not being true ffb from the game it is another guide. To be honest though you get to know your load cell in the clubsports fairly well over time and you learn how much pressure to apply for maximum braking force in different cars/games anyway. It's very intuitive, very much like a real brake pedal.

Quick tip, you've probably heard it before but in case you haven't. Never turn the xbox on with the guide button on the wheel. Always turn the xbox on first, then power up the wheel, then connect the wheel and console by pressing the guide button on the wheel. And if you change the steering rotation in the wheel settings, for example if you go from 900 degrees playing FM and change to 360 degrees for F1 2011 always powered down the wheel after you have made the change and then power it back up and reconnect to the console.

Why is that? I know i don't own one but i'd still be interested to know why.

People initially reported problems with the connection of their wheel to the console and that tip was one of the best ways around the problem.

Ah right, so it was a connection issue rather than something a little more serious. I'd have to remember that if i did buy one eventually, always use the controller to turn the Xbox on.

Think you and I should get a private lobby and ensure no one else joins. The embarrassment level will be high

One thing I will say about Fanatec is do not look at the reviews online and think too much about their service. Every email I sent was delt with in under 5 minutes, every question was answered. I ordered last Thursday and everything arrived today (Although UPS seemed to think it needed to go from SE corner of Germany, up to Hamburg, down to mid west of Germany, then off to London, sent 3 of the 5 parcels to Birmingham and 2 stayed in London to be rescheduled for tomorrow and finally they all ended up at Oxford and sorted).

To be fair to Fanatec i think most of the whingers tend to be those in North America. The service there obviously leaves alot to be desired. Hence why DG was brought on-board.

Hope you enjoy your purchase(s) and don't forget a mini-review/pics when your all up and running

Not happy!!! Not happy at all! after spending over 2 hours setting up I finally got to have a go. 20 minutes later there was a bang, power off and the power supply is dead. I'm not the sort of person who enjoys this sort of thing!

Then chill Winston, it's going to be that great again when you get a replacement PSU

Not ideal but you've waited this long to get a wheel, what's a few more days.

Also ill add im not too happy that one of the brass nuts located in the right hand paddle shifter mount had come out which meant it was rattling around inside the wheel. Got it out with a little careful leverage but for the money im not impressed so far. Infact if a power supply is not sent tomorrow by supersonic courier then they can have it all back and ill get my refund.
