Have you ever been caught speeding?

Well..... Have you?

I recently have for the first time ever (59 in a 50 zone going under a bridge which they were sat on top of!), and i now have to do one of those Safety Awareness courses. Which i have to pay 85 for the privilege as well!

Better than 3 points i suppose.

No.

Got caught by a red light camera about 10 years ago (just as it changed, honest!) after I unsuccessfully attempted to beat the lights. It just so happened to suggest I was doing 43 in a 30. 3 points and 60.

I've got a Safety Awareness course next week for Driving without Due Care and Attention last autumn. Council changed the road at the back of the station to one way, I never noticed and went through the new no-entry sign and got caught by the Fuzz who were sat there waiting.... and also busted 4 other people for the same offense at the same time! I've had to take a day off work, but it's better than points and a hefty fine and at least it's a practical course rather than the gory road accident slideshow you get for speeding.

I've been caught numerous times, though not for the past 5 years, as I crawl everywhere these days.

My worst offence was in my mr2 roadster, doing 95 in a 50 on a dual carriageway. One month ban and 150 fine...strangely though no points. I just held my hand up in court, was 6am on a Sunday morning in the summer, no other cars on the road. ... I'm even mentioned in the news Teacher drove at twice the speed limit - Wales Online

Also got caught speeding while drinking some red bull on a dual carriageway, comically I didn't notice the policecar alongside me with the policeman shaking his head in disgust.

Up until a few years ago, I would get three points, and as soon as I got rid of those, I'd get another 3 straight away.

Good boy now though

Yes far too many times....I think my points are working on some sort of lottery bonus ball system haha. 84 in a 50 on Xmas at midnight on a complete empty strech of motorway and court summons through the post.....happy days!

Most annoying one. 36 in 30 at 22.40, village with very few houses on this stretch and no street lights to give indicator that was a built up area hence a 30. Wanted to give me 5 points for some strange reason. Took it to court, argued about poor signage a copper lied on his statement. Said I gave no response! 50 quid expenses ticking off and no points.

Next one. 58 mph on 60 road!
Never realised at the time but 50 limit on transit sized vehicle on single carriage way ........tossers. Wtf has that got to do with road safety, empty stretch of carriage way just after dual ends with hardly a sole on it at the time. That's just revenue/stat generation if ever I saw it.
Oh clean license for 6 years now

Was just stupid at the time. Drove a 600 mile round trip, was around 12 miles from home on a clear sunny day, needed to get home quick and put my foot down a little too hard. License removed, 18 month ban and 1500 fine.

Shame as generally I was never a speeder and even had advanced driving under my belt. Magistrate threw the whole book at me even with letter from employer. Lost my job too because of it. Not worth it.

Just once, 48 in a 30 country lane no houses on it. was rushing to work as i had stayed an extra night at a mini festival last summer (had borrowed the old dears camper van). 60 and 3 points, no option for the speed awareness course, 2 other people got caught too. no excuse, was a fair cop.

Done 70 in a 30 zone up our way, a half mile straight road, keep in mind it was 4am and the roads were dead, only done it for 10 seconds or so before i had to slow.
Good fun, but not something i'd do often.

I've been pulled over twice within 12 hours no points or fines not even a ticking off from the officer

First time i was doing 60 - 65 in a 30 just outside my work compound I started at 2200 so there was no kids about, I was late for work, as I was putting my window down to swipe and go in I saw a police car behind me and he turned his blues on got out and started talking but other cars were starting to que so he just said be careful and left me, on top of that when I got home i realised I had a brake light out. I was a lucky sod.

Next afternoon I was going through a lane used as a rat run in Stevenage, it's windy and there was an officer with a speed gun in the bush, he stepped out in front of me, I was doing about 34 in a 30 I was completely honest and he let me go.

Other than that I'm pretty chilled out i know there a time and place for speed, if I need to usually have my head on a swivel

Never been caught before or since those lucky 12 hours

clean licence but I have occasionally sped in overtakes because some silly buggers had a lack of throttle control, in a 60 between Carlisle and Penrith and stuck behind a golf 1.6 fsi, he was doing 40 - 50 which screwed my economy and led me to observe the dumbos behind getting too close, anywho, saw the gap and with 60 BHP I gunned it and was doing 75 after passing him, decellerated after though, like Bailey I hate speeders, aint worth killing a kid to avoid being 30 seconds late for work.

Sorry don't like the Mr Jobsworth coppers now. Few years back I was on my bike. Worked late and was coming home about 1am. Bike was booked in the next day for new rear tyre. Anyway, on the way home I got stopped. Was not doing anything out of the ordinary. He did the usual "do you know why I stopped you?" And I said "no?". He then tells me my tail light is out, which I then say thank you! I did not know, and it's good that you have told me because my bike is in the garage tomorrow 9am, I can get the bulb and stuff then....he then booked me for the tyre being low on tread and the rear light.

Never been caught speeding yet. Thank god.

Have been well above the limit which is stupid. Also think the speed limits are to most an advisory. Motorway speed is 80/90, if your doing 75 in the fast lane you get people up your bumper.

IT'S NOT A FAST LANE.

It's a 2nd overtaking lane. If you aren't overtaking, get the **** back to the inside lane. Not the middle lane. The inside lane.

Couldn't agree more. The number of people who don't seem to know that you should return to the left hand lane following an overtake is always pretty high. That said, if they're hogging the middle lane at 60, and I'm in the left hand lane at 70 I just keep in lane - it's surprising how many of them will pull into the left lane once someone overtakes them on the inside - I guess it brings them out of whatever doze they were in.

That's the rules Spiney! You stay as far left as possible, until you have to change lanes to overtake. If there is nothing in your lane, stay put. Speed is irrelevant.

Got to admit I'm rather tempted to make a show of going all the way around them, then chopping their nose off.

That just depends on what mood I'm in. Generally this, cruise on, 80ish, only move when I have to

I don't have cruise. Only a 120 option, but I'd have had to wait 12 weeks for a build date.

Might retrofit if I ever start doing proper mileage.

To 'Mr Jobsworth Copper' you could of been fibbing, how many time could he of been told that when they weren't planning to have work done the next day. Or how sympathetic would you be if someone couldn't stop in time and hit you with low tyre/s and they were booked in somewhere the next day?
