Pics Le Mans Classics (Pics)

While assassin was enjoying the Grand Prix at Silverstone, I headed off to Le Mans for the Classics weekend. To be honest, you didn't need to go down to Le Mans to see lots of classic cars - the ferry was probably 3/4 full of classic cars. If it had sunk, it would have been an almighty insurance claim!

Still, a mix of 30 degree heat, heavy rain and annoying drizzle didn't put a damper on things, so here's a few pics (new and old cars).

The new:

The old:

The many:

(actually that's just a small selection - the car show filled the Bugatti track)

The bear:

The Breadvan:

Jaguar C-Type leading the way:

Corvette at midnight:

And finally, a Frenchman in period costume:

Thanks.

As you say, there was certainly a great selection of cars there - over 8000 as I understand it including upwards of 1000 Porsches of varying types (although mainly 911's). There were also 450 cars racing in the 6 classes (they don't all run at once!).

With just under half as many people there, it's not as busy as the 24Hours, and has a different atmosphere. I think one of our group summed it up perfectly - the 24Hours has the better racing but everything else is better at the Classic. Think I may be tempted to go again at some time in the future.

And, for the official write up:

Now, hopefully this link to the full set of my pics works...

8000 :O That's epic levels!

A nice set of the full pcitures, I like that ultra close-up of one of the drivers faces while driving. It must be hard trying not to take a picture of every last one of them :P That'd be a bit too much to upload though! I like that cathedral at the end of the set, quite impressive in size.

Do you mean this one for the close up?

If so, that wasn't deliberate, just a mistimed shot on full zoom

No chance that the camera battery could have coped with taking a photo of all 8000, not to mention not having enough time to do it.

To give an indication of what the 8000 represented, before last weekend I had seen precisely two DeTomaso Panteras. So it was a bit of a surprise to see 20 or so all lined up next to each other.

Total cost of the weekend was about the same an the XB1 + FM5 + AC4. Probably fair to say that I get more hours enjoyment out of the console, but better memories and a higher fun intensity from the trip.

Incidentally, as you mentioned above, Le Mans doesn't just have a world famous racetrack. It's also got an attractive city centre with a pretty spectacular cathedral. If anyone has an other half interested in such things, it could be a possible sell to combine that in a trip with the motor racing

I'll have to think about a trip in the future!

The shot of the close-up was this one:

I think that one might have been a case of "Oh ****! Zoomed in too close, better see what I can do" as well. There's a large part of me that is convinced that there is no secret to getting decent photos - just make sure you're lucky and in the right place at the right time.
